Clarence Brown Theatre - The Jenny Boyd Theatre
Blood Wedding is a poetic tragedy centered on an arranged marriage torn apart by forbidden passion. When the Bride elopes with her former lover, Leonardo, the Bridegroom pursues them into a surreal forest, where fate overtakes choice. The design for Blood Wedding is inspired by the idea that the characters are trapped by more than tradition or family expectations—they are bound by emotional chains they cannot escape. A chain chandelier, suggestive of both blood and inheritance, hangs over the space as a constant reminder of violence, desire, and inevitability. At the center of the stage, a cylindrical structure evokes the rural landscape of Andalusia in southern Spain, reinforcing themes of confinement, cyclical fate, and communal pressure.
